Lake County Jail Roster

The Lake County, Indiana Jail Roster is a public resource that allows anyone to check who is currently in custody at the county facility. Publicly available information about current and recently released inmates can be found on the LakeCourt.us website. Additionally, data is available through the official website of the Lake County Sheriff's Office, the INjail Public Access portal, as well as by visiting or calling the jail. The roster is maintained by the Lake County Sheriff's Office and is regularly updated to reflect bookings and releases. This tool provides transparency in the criminal justice system, giving the public the ability to verify the custody status of a specific individual.

Online Search

  1. Go to the INjail Public Access portal — the official public portal for Indiana jails.
  2. Select "Lake" in the "County" field.

You can also use LakeCourt.us to search for publicly available court information related to county inmates.

  • The booking number, if known

Records of juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public registry.

Find Lake Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the moment a detained person is officially registered in the jail. This process includes recording personal data, photographing, and fingerprinting.

Each record contains the following information:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of intake
  • List of charges filed
  • Arresting agency
  • Bail amount (if set)

Access to booking records can be obtained in several ways. The INjail portal shows current data on individuals in custody. If you need information about a court case related to the arrest, use the MyCase system — the official portal of the Indiana court system, where materials from the Lake County Circuit and Superior Courts are available.

For criminal records, including arrest history, contact the Bureau of Identification at the Lake County Sheriff's Office. This division maintains all criminal records of the sheriff's department. Additionally, the Indiana State Police offers a limited criminal history search covering felonies and Class A misdemeanors within the state.

If the person has already been transferred to an Indiana Department of Corrections facility, search through the IDOC inmate database.

Search the Lake Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

Two main search methods are available on the INjail portal.

Search by Last Name

Enter the last name in the appropriate field. The system will return a list of all individuals with that last name currently in the Lake County Jail. Adding a first name significantly narrows the results — useful for common last names.

Practical tips:

  • Check spelling — even one extra letter can lead to an empty result
  • Try spelling variations if the last name has multiple forms (e.g., with or without a hyphen)
  • Date of birth helps distinguish people with the same names

Search by Booking Number

If you know the booking number, enter it for immediate access to a specific record. This is the most accurate search method.

If the Search Yields No Results

The absence of a record does not always mean the person has not been detained. Possible reasons:

  • The registration process is not yet complete
  • The person has already been released or transferred to another facility
  • The name is recorded differently than you expect

In such a case, call the jail directly at (219) 755-3000. For court case verification, use MyCase or contact the Lake County Clerk's Office.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Lake

The Lake County Jail roster is updated regularly, but there may be a delay between the actual booking and the appearance of the record in the online system. Typically, new records appear within a few hours after the intake procedure is completed.

Limitations to be aware of:

  • A record may not appear immediately after an arrest — the registration process sometimes takes an hour or more, especially on weekends or holidays
  • After a person is released or transferred, their record disappears from the active roster. The INjail portal only displays those currently in custody
  • The roster is not an archive of all past bookings. To search for historical records, contact the Bureau of Identification or submit a public records request through the Lake County Public Records Commission
  • Data entry errors occur: a last name may be recorded incorrectly, and charges may be updated after the initial booking

To receive notifications about an inmate's status change (release, transfer), you can register with the Indiana SAVIN system, which sends automatic alerts.

Remember: the online roster is a snapshot of the current situation. It is useful for quick checks, but for official legal purposes, always contact the jail or the appropriate court authority directly.
